Animation 1 – Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly Maps from the CMC Environment Canada (September 17, 2016 and October 27, 2016)
The Blob was the name given to the area of elevated sea surface temperature anomalies in the eastern extratropical North Pacific. It formed in 2013, coupling with a ridge of high pressure that impacted weather patterns across North America into 2015. The Blob was the primary contributor to the reported record high global sea surface temperature anomalies in 2014, and contributed to the record highs in 2015 along with the 2015 portion of the 2014/15/16 El Niño. Hi Russ, Very interesting stuff to read.
I made a wild-assed connectioin to all that heat which you say has now disappeared. What if the heat was responsible for the sudden reduction in ice growth in the north during the same period? Check it out here…http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/2012/05/daily-image/
Just guessing at the energy that must have moved around there, but it feels global. Your thoughts?

I wonder how the global land/sea temps can keep breaking records when both the Blob and the El Nino have been replaced by cooler waters. The Indian Ocean is also on the cool side and has been since early this year.
