Weak sun could offset some global warming in Europe and US – study

The Guardian has the details:

Global warming in northern Europe and the eastern US could be partially offset in future winters because of the sun entering a weaker cycle similar to the one which enabled frost fairs to take place on the river Thames in the 17th and 18th century, according to new research.

However, the study said any potential weakening in solar activity would have only a small effect on temperature rises at a worldwide level, delaying the warming caused by emissions from cars, factories and power plants by around two years.

The sun has been in a period of high activity for the past few decades. But scientists believe there is now as much as a 20% chance of a weaker period of activity, known as a grand solar minimum, occurring in the next 40 years.

“Even if you do go into Maunder minimum conditions it’s not going to combat global warming, the sun’s not going to save us,” said lead author Sarah Ineson at the Met Office. The Maunder minimum is the name for the sun’s weak period during 1645-1715, when the Thames froze solidly enough for eyewitnesses to report horse-driven carriages crossing it.

Climate change means such sights in the second half of the century would not occur, since the sun’s cooling effect would only reduce manmade temperature rises in northern Europe and the eastern US by 0.4-0.8C. Such offsetting was not a “large signal”, Ineson said, although the study found there would be more frosty days in those regions than there would be without the weaker solar activity.

More details HERE.

We are the cusp of the Next Grand Minimum, and the real issue is the impact on agriculture, and the ability to feed the worlds 6 + billions. The population was less than a billion during the Maunder Minimum, and millions starved to death.  What do you think will happen when the next Grand Minimum arrives?

The Guardian clearly is clueless in evaluating the energy coefficient comparisons of the sun vs mankind energy or CO2 production. A 6th grader could unveil the lack of understanding by the Guardian.

Fill us in. Where did the Guardian go wrong? Do the 6th grade math for us.

Are they refuting the IPCC? The sun has definitely been ruled out according to the IPCC. Are they now saying that a MWP or LIA is possible without the advent of co2?. Maybe they missed the lectures showing the relationship between co2 and temperatures through the ages. And then what of the retained heat? Where has that gone? So if the sun is weaker now, and more frosty days are expected, then how much of a temperature difference did a strong sun make on years when it was warmer? Do they have any answers besides speculation?

rishrac BINGO!!! They are saying for the first time something that is correct: that MWP and LIA are CRAP / outdated pagan beliefs! MWP&LIA were as possible, as baby in a virgin. I corrected some misspellings on the old post I made for the brothers skeptics, to open their eyes – not to go in battle without checking their weapons first. And you know what; the Warmist hate that post much more than skeptics – I was discussing on Warmist blogs about that post, and THEY DON’T WANT Skeptics to open their eyes – because if they do, Warmist are finish. Warmist fortress is built, by using the the pagan beliefs that skeptics use, as foundation.

Same as Mohamed used Judaeo-christian beliefs as foundation – so that a priest will never prove that Mohamed’s god doesn’t exist – only Darwinist can prove that! Here, read very sentence don’t be a coward, to see if you have reliable weapons against the Warmist, OR you are shooting blanks AND using water pistols, given to the skeptics, by the warmist:: https://globalwarmingdenier.wordpress.com/2012/08/25/skeptics-stinky-skeletons-from-their-closet/

rishrac and rest of you guys, CO2 has nothing, nothing to do with the climate; IF CO2 was regulating the climate – would have being SAME climate in the deserts and in rainforests, because is SAME amount of CO2, everywhere! Even an earthworm refuses to live in deserts, because earthworms know that in deserts is bad climate. I don’t pretend to know what is the IQ of an earthworm; but must be higher than of people believing the political commissars that; CO2 can fix the climate, which is regulated by H2O!!! IF you want to give some insomnia to the leading Warmist, read those two posts, every sentence of it; and then start asking them real questions, and give them those links:
