Pachauri apparently thinks there will be decades of cooling, or he’d not now be hedging his bet so deeply:
“THE UN’s climate change chief, Rajendra Pachauri, has acknowledged a 17-year pause in global temperature rises, confirmed recently by Britain’s Met Office, but said it would need to last “30 to 40 years at least” to break the long-term global warming trend.

Dr Pachauri, the chairman of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said that open discussion about controversial science and politically incorrect views was an essential part of tackling climate change.”

They just keep moving the goal posts. It was 15 years and then 17 year, now it is 30 years.

Russ, Chicken Little got traction by screaming, “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!”

Everyone has to admit that “The sky hasn’t been falling for 17 years! The sky hasn’t been falling for 17 years!” and it might not be falling for another 20 or 30 years just doesn’t have the same impact. I think this is the official beginning of the end of IPCC alarmism.
